Is it possible to have students aged 14 - 16 years working and thinking like mathematicians as opposed to just learning the rules of mathematics? I say, "Yes!".
In this workshop you will be introduced to a number of examples of how this can happen in a classroom. The infinitude of primes, the Erdos-Kac Theorem (and other examples) can be transformed into exciting learning journeys during which students learn to work and think like a mathematician.
Essential to the examples chosen is the use of electronic technology. Spreadsheets, BIGNUM arithmetic, graphing and other such capabilities will be used that sometimes make the journey possible and always make it more exciting and engaging. Appropriate electronic technology will be supplied for participants.
This workshop will appeal to mathematics teachers (High School) and mathematics educators.
