Abstract: 

Description: Excel – but not as you know it. This workshop explores innovative ways of using Excel to enhance students’ thinking and numeracy skills. An interactive ‘how-to’ guide will have participants creating their own ‘Mathlets’ by the end of the session – ideal for use with Interactive Whiteboards.

Target Audience: Mathematics Teachers of all levels.

Number of Participants: Approx 30.

Requirements: Each participant needs their own laptop. Alternatively it could be held in a computer room. - preferably PC based. A data projector is also required. If available this workshop could use an Activboard by Promethean - but this is not essential.

An example 'mathlet' is attached, which uses Bloom's Taxonomy to explore transformation geometry, including the electronic design of a tapa cloth. Tapa are traditional barkcloth from Pacific Islands such as Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.
